windows updates no longer download

    hi guys im new here and was wondering if anyone could help me? The problem is i cannot get any updates from microsofts updates page they used to d/l automatically quite why thatstopped im not sure however now when i go to the update page and scan for updates i get an error page it does not even start the scan.I really dont want to format but i cant think of anything else so im hoping you guys may be able to help? (xp h/e) :)

    Windows Updates

    Hi runeo - Welcome to the Board :)

    First of all search the Board for 'Windows Update' - you will find plenty of references to Update problems. Use an Advanced Search for Titles only. If none solve your problem - post back. In any case post back and let us know if the problem is solved or not.

    If you have high security settings in IE you will need to add the Update sites to your Trusted zone.

    It is good practice to configure Automatic Updates to Notify rather than download automatically - that way you can see what is on offer and make a judgement as to whether the update is appropriate to your m/c. E.g. if you don't use Media Player the updates are not necessarilr critical to you

    Right click My Computer icon > Properties > Automatic Updates

    Moving this to XP forum

    hey pete thanks for the reply sorry i posted in the wrong place! i looked and auto update is turned on so ill check the other posts like you suggested! :)

    BTW - some subjects fall between two forums - in this case XP seemed the more appropriate.
