    Hi,

I have just formatted & reinstalled XP Pro using IE6.

How do I fix a problem whereby, when I surf websites, the pages look a bit too large compared to before? (It's a lot like how running a lower resolution on your desktop would affect the way the desktop looked.)

Where and how do I change this? I have no idea what's wrong. Everything is updated to the max and no different software here.

    Thanx in advance,
    Randy

    Oops!

Never mind too much. Right after I posted the question, something hiccups and all is well again. It's been like this for almost a week, though, until now. Go figure! :)

Any ideas as to what happened?????

Thanx for taking the time to read this thread.

I had the exact same thing happen, although I hadn't reinstalled IE, I thought maybe it was from spyware?! Then earlier the screen jumped and the font was ok.

Pretty weird, haven't seen it happen before.

Okay.....so here I am, diiging up an old thread of mine. :(

Thing is, I just formatted the same machine again to pass onto a daughter and I am having the same problem. HUGE fonts and stuff wherever I go in IE. It's as I originally described when I started this thread.

I'd like to give her the old PC but don't want to tell her to wait until some fluke thing happens that corrects it again.

All my updates are in....no spyware......no virus.....

Please? Any ideas as to how to fix this probem? I'm sure I will run into again in my travels and would like to understand it.

    Thanx,
    Randy

If you have Office installed, CONTROL-MOUSEWHEEL will do some fun things with the 'size' of web pages.

Possibly just the font size settings in IE?

With IE open, if you have a wheel mouse, hold down the control key on the keyboard and spin the wheel away from you to reduce the font size. If no wheel mouse, click View>Text Size and play with that setting to see if the problem is resolved.

    JoeHobart,
I didn't realize that control/scrollwheel was connected to MS Office? I thought that function was tied into the mouse drivers or software. Thanks for sharing the tip. :)

Large fonts are one thing. Large images that won't fit on a screen are another.
Large images can often be fixed by checking the box Enable Automatic Image Resizing in IE Tools|Internet Options|Advanced tab|Multimedia section. Or if the image is really gigantic, open it in a graphics editor, such as MSPaint or Irfanview and reduce its size.

    Sorry I'm so late!

I just got home from work and was busy playing "musical computers" this morning by starting up my bad boy (as listed in my signature) for the first time. ;) Blazing fast machine, by the way.

Okay....so now I'm back on my old machine (which has posted problem) and I tried everything you had all mentioned to no avail.

Any more ideas or shall I wait until it "pops" into perspective for some unknown reason again? :)

Forgive me if I'm a bit late posting again but I now have a third PC here (daughter's old P3) from which I must copy all manner of data onto this unit now. That, and playing around setting up the new one, so.......

I thank you in advance and will surely post back, no matter what.

Your posts do not go unappreciated. ;)

Sorry for the late post again.

Things have been rather chaotic here lately.

My font size (resolution?) in web pages viewed in IE6 popped back into shape again like it did once before.....no idea how, when or why.

All is well and, alas, I cannot send you a screenshot to show you what it did again.

Thanx again to everyone here for your consideration.

    Randy

I don't think it is tied to Office. I don't know if it's tied to Windows, mouse drivers or IE but it's always worked for me and I've got no traces of office on my computer. Works on every computer I've tried it on whether Office is present or not.
