I am the only user on my computer and of course I have administrators right also. I have Guest turned off and nothing has changed to my knowledge, but all of a sudden I cant get into IE, tools, internet options. When I try I get an error message that says:
"The operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your computer administrator "
I don't get it. I was just in there yesterday. I tried creating a new administrator account and when I switched to that account it worked fine. I run XP home SP-1 with all updates current with IE 6.0.2800.1106.xpsp2.030422-1633
    Can you help?

Are you using Spybot? If so check out

Spybot > Advanced Mode > Immunise and scroll down and check if the Lock IE .... is checked.

If Spybot isn't the culprit, download HijackThis from the CWShredder link in my signature, place it in a permanent folder, open and scan. Then save the log. Once saved it will open in notepad. Copy the processes section and paste in one post, split the rest in half and paste in two subsequent posts (necessary due to temporary problems with the boards).

    Problem solved

Spybot's the problem. I just started using it. Thanks Pete your a genius in my book. noahdfear, I appreciate your help also.
As long as we are speaking of Spybot, after I do "Check for problems" I get this long list of black and green items. I understand the green items are Internet tracks, but the ones in black seem to be all registry entries like:
    1.Missing help files
    2.Missing shared DLL'
    3.and wrong path entries
The problem is on the top of the list it says "Congratulations no immediate threats found ".
If I select all items and "Fix" it takes care of the green entries, but prompts for all the registry items. Should I delete/fix those also or leave them alone?
