My computer has Win 98 and Netscape 4.79 that
I use mainly for the excellant way e-mail works
in 4.79. Recently I developed a major problem
in Win 98 and have to reformat the hard drive
and reinstall every thing. Before I did this
I copied all the netscape 4.79 user files onto
    a CD. When I reinstalled netscape 4.79 I went
into windows explorer and moved the User Folder
to another spare folder then put the old User
Folder from the CD into its place. I am trying
to get all my inbox info back. This did not
work. The User folder is broken down into
several sub folders. I tried to move the entire
old user folder into the newly installed netscape.
Is there a way to put all my inbox files from
the old netscape into the newly installed one.
I was able to copy all my bookmarks over without
a problem. When I opened netscape 4.79 and went
to mail and the in-box I got a message access denied
after I had copied the contents of the user files from
    my previous netscape/.

    Thanks, Jerry

It is not so bad to restore your links to the program, but you wil;l have to accept the fact that something jhappened in translation. I would check first the properties of the CD or the downloaded file/folder to see if they are Read Only.
Just uncheck the box, and, try again (exit from Netscape, while you do that).
I never attempted to do what you are trying to do, since you are missiong a link which tells the profile to work with the program. You may have to create a new user profile into which you copy/paste the key files.

    Hi Jerry,

When you burned your Users folder to CD, the file attributes were rendered "Read only ". You will need to right click the files, and select: Properties. At the bottom of the Properties dialog, in the File Attributes section, uncheck the "Read-Only" box, click Apply, then click OK.

    Ramona :)
