When I turned on my pc tonight, as always I started my Netscape Mail and got my messages.
When I clicked on a link I got this error message:

The connection was refused when attempting to contact the proxy server you have configured. Please check your proxy settings and try again.

I can get on the internet with Internet Explorer but not with Netscape.
I cannot click on a link and get on. Opening up the browser brings the same
error message. Everything was fine when I shut it down this morning.
I have cable internet with Mediacom Cable.
All my settings seem to be the same as before.
The weird part is that I can send and recieve email!
    Thank goodness for that!!
    I'm stumped!
    Please help.
Ramona you have been such a great help before, I'm hoping we can figure this one out too.
    Thanks,
    Debbie in Al

It sounds as if you are trying to run through a proxy server.
Goto Preferences - Advanced - Proxies

Select Direct Connection to the Internet

Unless you are expecting to be going through a proxy, then it appears that it is down, but I never remember ever getting this error when I tried to use a proxy server that was down. Anyway, hope this helps.

    Hi Debbie,

The error you received is a server side error. Do you have to use a proxy configuration to connect to the Internet? I doubt it, so go to your:
    Preferences | Advanced | Proxies
    Select: Direct connection to Internet

Now see if you continue to get the error.

    Ramona :)

About two years ago my ISP stopped requesting to access it via proxy. Direct connection to the internet has never failed, since then.
