"Mom" in Outlook Express

There are 8 names in my WAB that come alphabetically before "mom" , but when I type "m" in the "to" field, Mom shows up first. Every other name auto completes in alpha order- so why not Mom? Is this an OE "feature "? "Dad" doesn't work that way.

Anybody else ever notice this in OE? or,
is it just my goofy comp?

Never noticed it before, but mine works the same way.

 

Johanna - It's all a natural deference and in honor of our parents (probably due in part to some of the Chinese influence on all the parts and pieces)

 

Could it be that you've typed M0m (zero) rather than Mom (oh)?

 

Nope. "Mom" comes up the second I hit the "m ". Several other people have confirmed that theirs does, too. It must be deliberate- after all, who is more important than your Mom?

It's probably assuming Mom are initials and listing it first like they do in the phone books. Just guessing

Johanna - I don't think Ivajig was kidding. The thinking is like AAAAABailbonds or AAAAMoving like the old phone book trick to get your name in first in the listings. I had a thought along those lines but I reckon it doesn't compute but is a thought. I still think Windows defers to Mom and Dad just because it's just the right thing to do.

 

No, I wasn't kidding. As stated earlier, I was guessing!! After I opened my mouth I experimented by adding Mom to my address book and the second M person automatically comes up on mine. Then I thought maybe it comes up with the one you use the most, that wasn't true either. Sooooooo, I guess it is another one of those microsoft mysteries.

 

I think it may have something to do with how often you e-mail a certain known entry. Don't worry, such happens to me. I wondered. But I just figured the computer has a brain of its own. I know it's the same reason why there is some kind of "helpful" adjustment to the order of my files every time I "Save As" or "Open." I'd prefer that to just remain alphabetical.
