What does it mean when you see a ".1" on the end of a registry item and you see the very same item without the ".1 "??

    ex: AppRegAgent.ActiveUpdate
    AppRegAgent.ActiveUpdate.1

I have this condition throughout my registry.
Are both of these items being used?
Is it safe to delete one of them (which one) from the reg?

    Thank you,
    clif

1 usually means active or yes where 0 (and possibly blank?) means inactive or no (switched off), or can also indicate 0 in a scale of 0-10 or 0-100 (for example) such as delay setting time etc.
Be very carefull about deleting what appears to be duplicate keys, or any registry key unless you are ABSOLUTELY sure the software is no longer needed. It's impossible to clear all useless registry keys, and quite frankly not necessary. I would suggest using registry cleaners such as the two I recommend below to keep the registry reasonably squeeky clean. No registry cleaner is 100% safe, but the two I recommend have caused me little or no problem. They also automatically save a backup of deleted entries that can easily be merged back into the registry in case of problems. Using a registry defragmenter (optimiser) after cleaning the registry will also help speed things up a little. I don't recommend using duplicate key removers such as the one incorporated in EasyCleaner to remove the duplicates you are refering too. There is just to much guess work involved. Many duplicates are safe to remove but some arn't.
