HI! I'M SAD AND ANGRY, BECAUSE TRYING TO SPEED UP MY COMPUTER I DELETED ALL MY NECCESSARY FILES FOR MY COMPUTER TO RUN. I'VE BEEN WORKING ON IT, I GOT IT TO BOOT UP IN SAFE MODE THAT'S AS FAR AS I GOT. WHAT I WANT TO DO IS TO COPY ALL MY MUSIC TO MY HUSBAND'S COMPUTER AND THEN REINSTALL WINDOWS ON MY BELOVED.
CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO DO THIS? I HAVE TO INSTALL MY HDD TO MY HUSBAND'S COMPUTER RIGHT? AND THEN WHAT?
    THANK YOU EOM

Turn them both off. Unplug them(you might get a difference of opinion on this) Pull your drive. Open up the case of the other. Careful with static electricity. On the back of your HD, are some pins with a little plastic jumper. Should be a diagram on the drive where to put the jumper for "slave ". Your husband's should be ok. Look at the ribbon cable that goes to your husband's drive, should be an empty connector on it. Connect it to your drive, hubby's should have extra power supply connectors(should be 4pin) connect the power supply. Boot the computer. Then right click on my computer, explore. Your drive should show up, you then can drag and drop the files your want onto hubbys.

If you were thinking of something else, post back.

It might be well worth it to try a reinstall of 98 over itself.

What do you have for a Win98 CD ?

    Do you have a Win98 Startup Disk ( floppy ) ?

If you can get to the Safe Mode all is not lost. An overtop re-install should fix things up nicely.

Please turn off Caps Lock, it is like you are yelling at all of us, and using a Meaningful Subject would be nice.
If you were to reinstall windows, using a windows CD, you would not need worry about transfering the files.
If you have one of those recovery CD's, it still may be possible to install windows without using it. These recovery CD's usually copy the setup files into the folder C:\Windows\Options\Cabs. If you were to use the following command at the prompt, the reinstall will commence, if the setup files are in that folder.
    c:\windows\options\cabs\setup
Or double click that file [setup.exe] in safe mode, whichever is easier for you. But doing it from the prompt is better in the long run.

Or follow Aleekat's instructions to the letter, this will not harm your husband's computer. You''ll be able to transfer your files using Windows Explorer. The only difference on his computer will be that the CD's letter(s) will be moved up, they will be back to what they were when your drive is removed.
Then when windows is installed, you would need only to burn your files to a CDRW, or network the computers, or R & R the drives again to transfer them back.

    SOMETHING TO WATCH FOR

If you do re-install Windows over the existing watch carefully during the process to make sure that Windows goes back into the EXISTING folder.

Otherwise it might go into C:\Windows001.

This is why booting form the Startup Disk is better. The setup does not even know Windows exists. Which is the better way.

If you were to boot to the Command Prompt some of Windows/DOS files may get loaded and my interfere with a good install.
