The problem that is developing with my cd rom is that when I put a cd rom in the computer it makes a noisey humming noise. It does not effect the software that is in the drive but it stays noisey as long as the software is in the drive. Anyone ever have this problem?

I'm sure that "humming" sound is just your CD-ROM spinning up the cd you just put in. Some CD-ROM's are noiser that others. Did this "humming" just start or has it always been there? What brand of CD-ROM is it?

When I was searching for a new faster CD-ROM for my PC I did some searching on Google for reviews as the one I was looking at was on sale. I didn't get it as quite a few of the reviews stated that it was quite loud and chunky (not my words. Now I know why it was on sale. :)

I ended up buying a Lite-On model which I am quite happy with and is actually quite quiet.

Pretty much normal - these high speed drives rev up to ~7500 rpm and sound a bit like a jet engine! your drive may be wearing a bit.

Occasional CD's are out of balance and cause additional 'humming/vibration'
