several problems-javascript, slow internet

Hello. You all are a very impressive bunch and I hope you can help me as well.
In brief I have 2 Dell P4's with the newer one 2.66 slower than the other one!

1. I notice this both for IE6 as well as general loading of programs, although not very slow, just a couple of secs.
2. I can't load some screens within websites that have a javascript line at the bottom of the screen, but I can on the older one.
3. I will often see screens that say 'done with errors on page' and at times the screen says 'done' but it may take 30 secs for the screen to be filled with the images.
4. Often, when shutting down the computer I will have a program
message 'MessageApp not responding' and I have to close from the dialog box.
5. The main difference between the two computers is I am using Outlook on the problem machine and not the other one, and get the typical spam nonsense messages daily.
6. Finally I have been using Spyhunter on a weekly basis and despite its use I seem to have 25-35 repeat offenders every time I run it.

I took the liberty of running
-Online Trojan Scan- none found
-Adaware- about 130 removed
-Hijack this - with the log reproduced below

Reboot and recommend you uninstall Virtual Bouncer from add/remove. Get this HOSTS file reader and scan. Open what is found with the notepad button. You would be looking for entries to security/help sites....lavasoft, securitykolla, lurkhere, etc. If one is such as this is present, disable and install default. Download and run CWShredder from the link in my signature. Update and scan again with Ad-aware and Spybot with settings outlined here.

Post a fresh log.

 

thanks for your help...did as you said-

removed the items from hijack as you suggested

virtual bouncer was gone (i thought) however still turned up on
adaware/spybot screen (removed then)

ran hosts- no security/help sites

adaware had 50 items with the customized settings and spybot had 16 (all removed from both)

reran hijackthis but it comes up with only an immediate screen printed below (can't figure out how to run a new screen)

Still unable to load javascript subwindows in IE.

Visit Windows update and install any critical updates and service packs offered.
Install Sun's J2SE Java Runtime Environment (JRE) . Reboot.

Go to start>run and type cleanmgr /sageset:1, hit enter. In the opening box check all except compress old files and OK out. Start>run and type cleanmgr /sagerun:1 and hit enter.
Reboot and post another log.

I cant help but think its a popup blocker or a security program blocking script, or perhaps the lack of applied updates?

 

Have made the changes and updated Java from 4.2.03(Ibelieve) to 4.2.04. No change in the Java problem. The javascript in the particular test case I am checking is for a popup but it is a broader problem than that, in that it occurs in a number of instances.

Otherwise have fixed Hijack, run cleanmgr with the changes made to settings and rerun Hijack.

(What I meant before was the Hijack program when run now, immediately brings up the list of items, whereas I thought on the first run it had to go through some scan that took some time; perhaps not)

Your log does not reflect having done windows updates. Did you do them?

As noted by Lonny and part of the reason I recommended it, that may fix your problem. You could also try disabling the google toolbar's popup blocker while testing to see if that is the culprit (though I don't suspect it). Check tools>internet options>advanced tab to be sure sun java is checked. On security tab>custom level, enable all three scripting options.

 

Well this should be my final post.

I did all the items in the above reply; I assume the thing to do in the Jave internet option location was to check the compiler (3rd choice) since I don't see one for Sun specifically but I have also tried with all three checked.

I compared and then used the same settings for my two computers and still the old one worked and the newer one didn't.

I also updated Windows; it turned out that my IE update had not gone through in the past.

Eventually I noticed in the control panel the Java plug in icon. This option was not selected for IE as the default. I checked it and the javascrupt pages now load.

I don't know if this is defaulting to something other than the Sun Java, but that's where the problem was.

Thanks for all the help and suggestions on everything and hopefully my system is now much cleaner than before.
