Is this on the desktop when you logon to windows, or when you open IE?

OK, I got confused when you stated 'when I boot up' and the subject line 'weird e-mail' just left my mind. Then you said 'inbox when I open IE'. I'm assuming you mean OE. The only way I know of to keep them from coming through is by adding the address to the blocked senders list. I don't use OE much so maybe someone more familiar with it will jump in here.

I mostly use hotmail, which many consider 'junk email account', but find it easy to block senders and set up the filters. I have also noticed more efficient blocking of infected emails than before.

MIR11 - if you are talking about email you get when you first start mail and where the subject or contents contain nonsense, it's a recent variation of SPAM. They use weird email addresses and have strange stuff in the body to confuse spam blockers.

It's odd but I get usually a dozen or two a day to my work email address and rarely any to home.

I have deleted today's crop or I'd post a sample or two.

The thing that puzzles me is how they get folks to pay attention to them. I sorta understand how they can get thru most spam filters but once you have an email where the body is random words and finally, maybe, a link to some site offering 'prescription drugs without a prescription' or something, who would trust them enough to buy the stuff?

    Thank You:
That is the kind of stuff i am getting; 6 to 8 a day for a week is too many..
One was an envelope icon with no subject line: of course i did not touch it.
Back to reading e-mail on Bellsouth.net homepage for awhile.
    Thanks again

I'd love to see someone post a how-to myself. I can't figure out a way.

In OE, highlight what you don't want, and press "delete ". Use the down arrow key to skip deleting email you want to read. I get at least 25 of them a day. You could also use MailWasher to delete them off the server, before downloading them in the first place.

Don't know what email account you are using, whether ISP or hotmail or ???, but you might try accessing the account from IE rather than OE and set the filter and blocking options from there.

What is your email handler? Hotmail? MSN (which is Hotmail)? ISP provided account?

Login to your email account here. Under options you can set filters and blocking.
