I sucessfully networked two computers (which is a huge accomplishement in itself).
The host computer is a Pentium 4 running XP.
The secondary computer is a Pentium II Celeron running Win98SE.

    I'm having problems, though.

I just installed Rogers cable DSL as a trial for 2 months. I thought it might help the slow internet connection I've been experiencing on the secondary computer (prior to networking).

Now I have the dsl modem attached to the router, which is attached to the HOST computer.

The secondary computer is still performing extremely slow when I TRY to surf. It's so slow that when I click on MSN's home page, it takes forever before I even get a blue screen, but then nothing else loads. And the next thing I know, I see "page can not be displayed ".

My wireless adaptor's setting shows up as signal strength: 22% and link quality: 100%
However, every few seconds, it drops and struggles to reconnect.

While the Rogers Tech was here, he mentioned I need to enter proxy settings on the secondary computer. But he wasn't certain. Does this sound right?

Any other suggestions would really help me. I wish I knew more!

How are you hooking up the computers? B or G? If it is an ethernet modem then the(hooked through the WLAN) router would be the DHCP Server. Maybe your wireless computer is too far away from the router. Or there is inteference from a microwave or cordless phone if you are using a G router, card.

On the disconnect go to the wireless properties of the card and uncheck authentication. This usually fixes that problem.

Go to http://www.dslreports.com/tools and do the tweak test. I've had problems even doing the tweak test through some routers. So do it through the modem if you can't do it through the router. The MTU of the ISP needs to be configured on my router. Some routers don't have any way to configure the MTU.

I have done a little rearranging so that there is no interference between my router and the computer upstairs. There has been a little improvement, but I will also try your suggestion about unchecking authentication.

    Thanks.
