Can someone tell me what is this "dpcproxy" and where did it come from? I am trying to help my daughter who has a Dell with XP Home Edition.
Everytime she boots up the computer it comes up with this message that a connection with the server could not be established. Rather annoying...
Is this a needed program or can we delete it?
    Any help would be appreciated.

Need it? Yes, no, maybe, probably not, sort of.

    How's that for a direct answer? :)

It's a critter that Direcway (satellite internet) uses. Not always real well behaved. Probably not needed.

Excellent how-to for disabling it Here.

Were it me, I'd start by stopping the service and renaming the .exe file. That way if things don't work, it's easy to get back to where you started.
