I cannot stop a "whoop" sound from occuring in IE or AOL IM whenever a popup(I think) is blocked. I use ZoneAlarmPro as my popup blocker and that is not the culprit. I have no viruses or pests(NAV, PestPatrol, SpyBot). I checked for unknown CLSIDs with ToolBarCop and deleted them.

In the past I have used GoogleToolbar and Earthlink toolbars to block popups but deleted them a long time ago

    Any ideas

I kind of had the same issue, I went to the control panel, sounds, and previewed all sounds that were marked until I found the culprit. Then turned if off there.

I quit using Zone a while back, but I don't think they have "sound" associated with killing popups. So, the next guess would be the aol. Can you disable aol for a while and see if you still get the sound. I haven't used aol im for yrs, but I do recall they did have sounds associated with it.

I know how annoying it is, at this point I would do search on your computer for *.wav and see if you can find where the annoying sound is located. What program?etc.. It may not be a wav file, but pretty likely it is.

I went through every .wav and no luck. I am going crazy. Is there no way of recording system processes to determine what is occuring when I hear that sound?

I found it!!!!!!!!!!!!The culprit was a part of PestPatrol called CookiePatrol(it alerts you whenever it deletes a new cookie).

I kept open the Windows Task manager to see if any CPU would increase on background apps when I heard the whoop sound.

    Thanks for your suggestions!!
