If you mean the IP ports, should be the standard ones for POP3 and SMTP unless you are using Exchange Server or something.

If you mean something else, please explain because I'm confused.

    Hi, Newt ~

Standard 110/25 are not present as they do not work. Trying to find just where the settings are located in Outlook 2000 to identify the current ports.

    Hi Bruce... Try this:

    Tools>Options>Mail Delivery>Accounts> select an account >Properties>Advanced.

Should get you to the port settings. Does for me.

    Hi, John ~

No 'Mail Delivery' under 'Options' in OL2000.

Also, OL is configured for Microsoft Exchange.

What we are trying to do is set up an e-mail account with Outlook Express for personal e-mail. It used to work on 110/625, but there have been some changes on the network or something that now prevents the retrieval of mail. We were starting with the ports configured in OL2000 since that would be the obvious place to begin so we may set the ports up under advanced options in OE.

Does something different need to be done to access regular POP3 across Exchange?

Or am I going about this wrong, you think?

Are you trying to set up Outlook 2000 or Outlook Express?

Is MS Exchange on your LAN or WAN?

The port setting for Outlook Express is controlled by Internet Explorer.

I'm not sure if you can do both Exchange and POP3 in Outlook at the same time, I'd have to look into that. :(

    Hi, Kevin ~

Trying to set up OE for personal POP e-mail.

The company e-mail comes through OL2000 via the network VPN.

We used to have OE POP e-mail set up on ports 110 in and 625 out and it worked fine, but recent changes on the network have rendered retrieving mail through OE useless.

Seems to me there is a way to get OE to retrieve the POP mail.

Bruce, can you get to a Button or Tab that has "Reconfigure Mail support ". In this option try changing to "Internet Only" and it should allow access to the Mail Delivery tab and subsequently the Ports options.

May not be an option for you if you receive your e-mail through a Corporate or Workgroup server.

Have a look through options an see what's there.

Edit: Might be under a "Connections" tab.

I know I ran across as similar problem some time ago and changing to "Internet Only" fixed it.

Second Edit: I re-read through the posts again and it looks like I may be sending you up the wrong creek (without a paddle!!!). My above and previous post refer to OL2000 options and I think you are looking to find the ports used by OE? Had a look thru' options in OE but can't find where there listed. Sorry can't help. Would they be the same as OL2000?

Bruce, found this in OE's help:

"To change the server port number for a directory server
Follow this procedure only if instructed to do so by a directory service administrator.

In the Address Book or Outlook Express, click the Tools menu, and then click Accounts.

If you are in Outlook Express, click the Directory Service tab. (also should work on the "All" or "Mail" tab. You may have to use these tabs to find your mail server. Use OE>Tools>Accounts to get all the tabs.)

Click the directory service you are changing, click Properties, and then click the Advanced tab.

Set the Server Port Number as instructed by your directory service administrator. "

To find it in OE: Help>search for "port ", click on "port number, changing ".

    Hi, John ~

I am trying to find the ports that are configured by the network admin in OL2000 so we can use them to configure the ports in OE.

How do I find what ports are being used in OL2000 by the company network so we may use those same ports to set up and receive personal e-mail via OE on the same computer?

Up until recently we have been able to use both OL2000 and OE to receive mail: OL2000 for business and OE for personal.

Something changed recently and I am suspecting the ports to start with.

The company network uses Exchange for the company e-mail and port 110 is now blocked, we are assuming, as it no longer works where it used to after the recent network changes.

    Hi, John ~

Finding the port on OE is simple and we know that - that is not what we are seeking.

We are seeking at least one likely open port the company e-mail (OL2000) uses that can be determined and then plugged into OE to retrieve personal e-mail.

OE default port for listening for e-mail is 110. It is now blocked. How can we set up retrieving mail through the company network?
