I'd definitely choose the last one, mainly because of the chipset (true 800 MHz & dual-channel ram). But make sure it has 2 x 256 MB paired ram sticks and not just 1 x 512 MB.

Thanks for your reply Daizy. Is there anything else that makes the third choice stand apart from the others?

I am clueless when it comes to hardware. I feel like I need someone to hold my hand while I buy! LOL

Yes - Good AGP video card as opposed to onboard video and upgrade to DVD writer well worth having (2 drives as I read it)

You lose out on hard drive capacity - 160 Gb may not be that important vs the 80 Gb, but the 160 Gb has an 8 Mb cache which should speed up performance - probably not important unless you are a dedicated gamer :)

On balance I'm with Daizy :), but to be fair - I guess any of the three would serve you well unless your personal use is 'intensive' - graphics in particular.

    Thank you, Pete.

We're not serious gamers, just the type of games you find on Pogo or MSN. And I do a lot of graphics/web design, but I don't see how I can use up 80GB of space (I currently have a 20GB + 3GB drives, and 14GB are free!) - so I don't see it as a loss.

I'm really excited - my computer has been acting up lately and it will be a nice change to use something faster and find out what high speed really means!

    Daizy,

I have posted about my computer that's acting up... 2 months ago! LOL
It was a problem with my internet always hanging. I gave up on trying to figure it out. It's such a pain in the hiney, though!

    I'm a little torn, still.

    Here's my problem:

    #2 comes with
Genuine Intel D845GVSR Motherboard up to six USB 2.0 ports, UDMA 33 ATA 100/66, Intel 845GVSR Chipset, Intstanly Available PC Technology, Hardware Monitoring

    BUT

    #3 comes with
Genuine Intel Motherboard, 865GBF Chipset with HT Technology support up to 3.20GHz CPU Support, 800 MHz Front Side Bus, 6 fast USB 2.0 Ports, Dual Channel DDR 400 Memory Support up to 4GB of system memory, Intel Rapid BIOS Boot, Instantly available PC

    AND...

    #2 has
160GB Western Digital 7200RPM 8mb cache Hard Drive
Free upgrade to 19" perfectly flat Samsung monitor

    BUT

    #3 has
80GB Western Digital 7200 RPM Hard Drive
Free upgrade to 17" perfectly flat Samsung monitor
52x24z52 CD-RW Drive with Burn Proof Technology and 16x DVD Drive Second Bay
Altec Lansing 3 piece Speaker Set with Subwoofer

    What's a girl to do?! #2 is only $30 less than #3.

I could be wrong, but I believe I answered him in a different post - I tried most suggestions but was afraid to go into the registry or do anything that I could potentially turn into a worse disaster!
I ended up having my pc reformatted (which should have solved my problems) but I continue to have problems with IE6. I read somewhere that it's just an unsolved mystery so I gave up.

nooooooo I don't wanna do that again! lol

Once I get the new one, I'll try IEradicator again on this one and get rid of IE6. I have a feeling that's what's making me lose my mind.

I'd still opt. for #3 - I doubt the HDD is only a 2 MB cache one... they can be difficult to find these days. And even if it is I'd still pick #3. And the seperate graphics card is a very good argument as well. DVD writer... nah, not necessarily, but nice.

I paid to have it reformatted because I couldn't figure it out... you think I can be a geek in "no time "?? I'd say it would take an eternity to teach me HALF the stuff you guys know!

I lost my sense of adventure this weekend - I had the living **** scared out of me at a haunted house! I've never been in a place where people hide in the walls and growl in your ear while you walk through the halls!! They must have been wearing night vision goggles to get THAT close to me without me even knowing!

I'm still with you Daizy ;), but could be tempted by the larger screen!

    I HEART you PeteC :D

Hey serenity ...you don't have to pay anyone any more. You got us! And you don't need to know half of what we know. Well, cause, in my case, that would put you in a negative position.

Haunted house in April. What kind of back-woods planet are you living on that has Halloween in April, for Gawd's sakes?!

    LMAO!
I live in Ontario, Canada. I was at Niagara Falls on the weekend, they have all sorts of things along the streets: adventure rides, Ripley's Believe it or Not museums, souvenir shops, and that haunted house.

Pete, my sis is really tempted by that 19" screen!!
