Installed Windows XP about two weeks ago. Also installed Word/Excel 2000. Had some newletters to write and noticed that the Kaufmann style is not there.

Went back to the other HD with Windows 98 (which is normally disconnected) and it's there. Used the same Word/Excel software on bothe OSs.

Anyone else notice this font style missing in Word using XP?

I have a collection of over 1700 fonts, including all of those that come with Win95, Win98, XP, and Office 97, and I don't have Kaufmann. My guess is that you installed it on the other HD at some time and just don't remember doing so.

    You can get it here.

Jim:......This software pack came with a system about four or five years ago, since which time I gave that to my niece and purchased the current machine about two years ago.

The software to which I'm referring was originally *Office 97 Small Business Edition*- later receiving an upgraded addition to this labeled Office 2000 Small Business.

The font style I mention does not show up when you click on the Fonts icon in the Control Panel. It does, however, show up when making a selections using Word - so my guess would be that it's a dedicated font used in Word and not other programs.

    Trident ...

Not to worry, but now you've got me confused, as your second post appears to contradict your first.
    • 1st post: "...noticed that the Kaufmann style is not there. Anyone else notice this font style missing in Word using XP? "

2nd post: "The font style I mention does...show up when making a selections (sic) using Word. "
    So, which is it? :)

I have "Office97 Professional Edition ", and Kaufmann isn't included with the fonts on the CD. And, when I look at the Office97 installation in My Programs, there is no fonts folder, which makes me think that the program installs its fonts into C:\Windows\Fonts.

Word allows you to save documents with embedded fonts, so that the document appears in its original form when viewed on a computer on which those fonts aren't installed. Could that be the case here?

As I said in my first post, I think you must have installed Kaufmann to the Fonts folder on the other HD at some time, and just don't remember doing so.

An afterthought ... fonts are funny things. When I view the installed fonts from the Control Panel, I see fonts listed which do not appear in the Windows Fonts folder. An example is "kocm.ttf ". It's not listed in the Fonts folder and none of the four font management programs I regularly use display it. If I do a search of the Fonts folder for it, it appears, but I have no way of seeing what it looks like.

Sorry for the confusion. (2nd post): I meant the font showed up in Word when I connected the HDD that was using 98 as an OS.
