Power supply help....

i think this is the power supply:

My computer will not turn on(obviously i am on another computer) i switched power cords, no change. i checked the main switch in the back, on.

I was in the middle of a game, and all of a sudden it turned off. ever since I havent been able to turn it on.

is that the power supply?

 

It is most likely the power supply if everything seems dead, that is, no fans try to spin, no lights flash etc. Some motherboards have a small led which tells you that it has power supplied (will tell you in the motherboard manual).

From my experience, if the processor (CPU) were to have failed, it would begin to start then shut itself down.

If it is an older machine it may be an AT power system. Modern systems are ATX (they were changing in about 1995-6).

Slight possibilty that power on button (on the front) is not working.

If you get a new power supply installed, don't skimp on it's cost. Cheap PSUs really aren't worth using, especially if you may be experiencing problems. Then again, only a "power user" will need a 450W PSU.

If you are thinking of installing it yourself (or with help), post back with your system details first. It may need a special PSU.

ya, it was the power supply... my warrantee is gone so i decided to do a little investigating. I took apart the power supply and discovered that the battery inside started to melt and spilled all over the chip on the inside, bad news, but i have already ordered one online, thanks for the help.

 

I canceled the order... the specifications on the power supply did not match up.

what does this mean and is this nesessary for the computer or can i get just about any power supply (at least that voltage that is?

 

that is what stinks about it, i dont know the hardware of my computer, my expertise is more along the lines of OS's and software, a friend of mine helped me pick the chips (he is the hardware guy)

 

I take that the 300W is the one you ordered, the 140W is what is in the computer now. The 140w sounds like a special desktop (as opposed to tower) power supply.

If the "box" (case) is a branded type like IBM, Dell, HP, Compaq, etc., you may well need to order the PSU through that manufacturer. Some of those types do not have matching motherboard connections and you may end up with a deep fried motherboard.

Maybe ask your hardware friend or take it to a local repairer and ask them to order the part for you. They are easy to install yourself.

ya, good advice....... I relly should of took it, That is always (well almost) what i tell other people. "the solution is always the simple one that you always overlook." I will bring it in to a computer place. And no, it is not name brand(put together)

 

I looked and Aida32 is no longer there..... do you know any other sites that have something like this???
