Block all of the 64,000+ ports that you don't need.

Browser needs port 80 open for http.
Email for send and receive needs ports 25 & 110 open.

Are you running any services? lilke a web server or something? Do you want to be able to connect to your PC from the internet? If not anything of the above then block all of them.

Ports are used for different programs to comunicate with the 'net. If any program that is accesible through some port on your pc is in any way vulnerable to some sort of attack - that means a security risk. To check your system for sec. holes you can use a tool called nessus www.nessus.org.

If you want to know what each port is usually used for there is a very nice site called www.google.com which can give you LOADS of information on that ;)

    Nice answer b1nary.

z4u - we will work with you on any problem you have.

But this sort of thing where you want to be spoon fed general information that you can easily search up is a waste of time.

    Locking the thread.
