    hey folks;

    I did a silly thing the other day & have lost my recycle bin from the desktop, it's not even in the windows explorer!. Anyone have any suggestions on how to restore this thing?

    Thanks for all the support provided here.

    Sincerely
    David

    If you've removed the icon from the Desktop, it won't appear in Explorer. You can restore it by using either TweakUI 1.33, or
    TweakUI 2.10
    (XP). Just check the Recycle Bin box on the Desktop tab in either version.

    Recycle Bin only appears on the Desktop, not in Control Panel.

    As Jim's suggestion failed to restore it try this - 'Recycle Bin - Repair or Replace'.

    http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_qr.htm

    BTW you may need to reboot to see the Recycle Bin after this tweak - or after Tweakui. Could also try Right click on Desktop > Refresh.

    The Desktop icon should appear instantly without the need to refresh or reboot. It's necessary to close and reopen Explorer for the Recycle Bin icon to appear there, though.

    The Registry fix at Kelly's Korner seems a bit excessive, as the only addition to the Registry when the Recycle Bin icons are present is the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Recycle Bin key.

    Addendum: Glad you got it fixed, Dave. I struggled with that one a long time when it first happened to me, back in Win9x.
