I am unable to clear my autocomplete history for forms. Using I'net Tools/Content/Autocomplete/clear forms, my PC (win98v2) just stops responding.
When I type inside a form box and a suggestion from history drops down, I cannot delete it individually.
    I looked in:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Doc Find Spec MRU, but the only value stated is a single "a ".
    I cleared the Settins/Start Menu/personal docs basket.
Seems that something is corrupted so I tried upgrading from IE 5.5 to IE 6.0; no luck.
Any suggestions on how to get at this history, or how to reinstall my Internet Tools, or anything else?
Would rather know where I'm going than where I've been but do not want to turn off autocomplete for forms completely.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

    Welcome.
Sorry. Didn't completely read your post. So, this is an edit. But at least this will bump up to the top until I or someone else can come up with an idea.

    Just a Thought......

Have you tried to clear your history in the General Tab? Have you cleared your Internet Temp Folder in Explorer lately? Have you scanned and defragged lately? Did you reboot after trying to clear these things? Do you have the latest MS updates?

Keep us posted. We are here to help!

    :)

    Panda & Welshjim--
Thanks much for your suggestions. I've tried all of them except for a detailed scan & defrag, and I'm overdue for that. Will then try to uninstall/reinstall IE (altho I've read that IE6 upgrade does not like being uninstalled). Looks like something is in fact corrupted in my system.
A lot of time to sink on such a small nuisance, but hey, what are obsessive personalities for if not for dealing w/ Microsoft? I'll repost w/ any results but if anyone has any further suggestions in the meantime....

Back again. No errors on scan. Unable to uninstall IE5.5 after installing IE6.0 -- followed all the instructions @MS knowledge base except for reinstalling _WINDOWS_ to get at IE. No way!

At another post in this section, contributing member Indutch directed me to a great utility for uninstalling IE called IEradicator. This did remove IE but not the shell files where autocomplete\ forms must be stored. The IEradictor site notes they will be issuing a later version that also strips the IE shell files, so I will try that and leave the feature off until then.
