    Hi!
I need help again, you're my only hope.
I bought a new Canon printer.
This printer is reducing my font size.
this for both text and graphics.
there seems to be an Hp driver there, and I think
    this is causing the problem
(My last printer was an HP 700). I've looked every
where even the registry I cannot find this
driver anywhere but in the canon driver directory
and it cannot be deleted from there.
Do you know how I can do this.
    Windows 98 SE (build 4.10.2222)
    Internet explorer 6
    533 megahertz Intel Pentium III
41.10 Gigabytes Usable Hard Drive Capacity
38.51 Gigabytes Hard Drive Free Space
Thanks in advance for any help!!

    Hi R,

To uninstall the old printer first look in Add/Remove programs and remove anything related to HP . Go to Settings>Printers, if the HP is there highlight it and click File>Delete (or right-click and select delete). Let us know if you have already tried these. It may require actually reinstalling the HP drivers then removing them again.

When you say reducing the print size, is that compared to what you see on the screen? Some fonts can look different in print. Compare the printed page to Print Preview (File>Print>Print Preview).

Are you using a standard font? Some printers won't print unconventional fonts. Check the Cannon website for FAQs on fonts. Has the font been installed in Control Panel>Fonts>File>Install Font? Windows (98) supports True Type fonts, others may not work.

Hope something here may help or someone may see something that I have missed (that's about as far as I have gone with printers/fonts :) ).

    Matt
PS If it relates to printing out information from the web, you can change fonts in IE in Tools>Internet Options>General>Fonts.

    Hello Mattman!
    Thanks for your response
    here goes
    1) I had deleted the printer via add/remove.
    2) nothing related to HP is in the harddisk
I have checked all folders, I have checked
    the registry.
I have done a manual search opening every
    folder where
I think some some tiny bit might be hiding.
    3) when you say I might have to reinstall the
drivers,do you mean setting up the printer
again? or just using the installation CD ?
    4) Yes the print preview Is decidedly smaller.
I usually use 12 in all my text, I am comparing
The Canon text with the HP text. theres a
    vast difference.
    5) I use "Times New Roman" which is a true type font
Yes it is installed, it's what I used with the HP
    6) Yes New times roman is what's in IE
Matt I do appreciate your help
    tks R.

I suggest you remove the Canon printer in Control Panel > Printers (? My 98 box is down at the moment), then remove the printer software via Add/Remove Programs and re-install the printer following Canon's instructions to the letter! Or check Canon's preferred method of removal.

    Hi Pete!
I did that about a dozen times, each time it turned out
to be the same. But last night when I re-installed, I was so
frustrated, I selected the HP driver, just to see what will happen.
    The printer did not print.
Went back to the Canon Driver and it printed
seems the Hp driver is jut there, but doing no harm,
This has brought me to conclude The problem
    lies somewhere in my Computer.
    could I be right?
    Thanks Pete,all the best!

    Hi Pete!
    I think I just lost a post:
I must have clicked the reply button.
However I forgot all about the HP post.
No That problem was never solved, the HP
    just limped along and died.
I bought a Canon i250 (the cheapest I could find)
    Thanks Pete!!

    sonk909,

I wish you had mentioned what software (program) you are printing from, e.g., wordpad, winword, or whatever.

Generally, print preview has settings for magnification and you must set it to 100% to see exactly what you will get when printing.

Excuse me if you already know this; I only mention it 'cause you say you're a beginner.

    Hello Sparrow!
I'm glad you mentioned this. I am using Word Pad
I go to Print Preview to see how my printed page
    will look.
There is no place there for adjusting settings.
There is "print "; "zoom in "; " zoom out "; and "close "
while testing this printer I click on" zoom in" twice and
the text shows the correct size. But when the
page is printed it's much smaller.
On Word Pad I can go to format and make
adjustments, but where you do it in print preview?
could you send me this information please?
    Thanks heap Sparrow!

    Hi sonk909,

I see what you mean. When I zoom once the image looks like a printed page, and the text is smaller than it seems to be in the editing window. I suspect that is what you get on paper.

I don't think you can adjust the size in the preview window.

I have used wordpad for years because it's easy to paste graphics into it, and I never noticed this. However, when I need a good looking document I use either wordperfect or winword, and I suspect you will have to do the same.

Sorry I can't be more help. Maybe someone else can.

Did you know that in a Wordpad document you can highlight lagre amounts of text (even Edit>Select All) and change the font size. If you don't like reading it like that, then just change the size before printing and don't save the document with that size font.

Are you sure that the HP was not printing in "high quality" mode and the Cannon is in "economical "?

Can you set the printer up on another computer? That will rule out a clash of drivers.

I just wonder if we are getting a bit off track here "¦â€¦.

The size of the text in Print Preview depends to a large extent on the size and resolution of the monitor and the dpi setting under Display Properties and really has no bearing on the size of the printed text. Set text size 12 in WordPad or your favourite word processor - I use Word 2003 and that’s what the printer should print regardless of how large/small it appears on the screen.

    So a test please, sonk909 "¦..

Type a line or two in WordPad in Times New Roman size 12 and print it on the Canon. Then measure the height of the printed text "“ should be, on my reckoning a tad under 3 mm high "“ that’s ~ 1/8 inch for a capital "˜T’. Post back with the result.

Incidentally have you printed the Printer Test Page "“ right click on the printer icon in Printers > Properties > Print Test Page ? Does this print out at the "˜right’ size?

Matt AFAIK the only difference between 'high quality'and 'ecconomy' is the amount of ink laid down?

    Good morning Mattman!
(This is answer to Matt, but I could not respond
to his post, because Pete's post overrided that.
I will now go to Pete's post. I hope I'll be let back
in to send him an answer. You people are working
very hard to help me,and I will answer every post,
    oneway or thr other.)
    1)
    Yes I know about "edit>select> Change;
Yes this is the only way I was able to coax the HP.
after a while it's behaviour became worse.
    2)
What Iremember of the HP setting is I tried to
change everything there, one at a time, so I'm
sure I printed in every mode and settings.
As for the Canon it says "normal"
and that's the only setting there.
    3)
I only have one Computer and I gave away the HP
    thanks heap Matt!

    Hello Pete!
Did you mean "MM" or "CM" I'm not too familiar
with this. However I did a search for metric tables.
( I want to make sure I am giving you the correct information)
    10 millimeters (mm)= 1 centimeter (cm)
I printed some text the" T" measured 3cm
If this table is right then that letter is larger
than 12, and this is not right
I also printed a small rose for graphics.
    put in a frame it measured 1 1/2 "x1 "
    printed it was 3/4 "x 1/2 "
Yes I have printed the test page, clean the print head,
and anything else Canon asked for.
I tried Pete; But I don't think it helped.
    thank you!

I wasn't too sure if you were familiar with the metric system :) - and I seem to have confused you :(

Respectfully suggest you measured at 3 millimeters or about 1/8 th inch, which is right for 12 size text. 3 centimeters is over 1 inch high!!

Did you size the graphics frame in the software to 1 1/2" x 1" or did you measure it off the screen? If you did it in software it should have printed out the size you specified.

    Dear Pete!
You are not confusing me;( I think it's the other way
    around.)
I try to give you all clear, and precise information.
When ever I can, without that you cannot help me.
Sorry pete if I missed the 1/8 Measure last time,
yes the" T" is 1/8" high.

I have no software for graphics, but this was never a problem.
Yes I did measure it off the screen. This picture was in My
Picture Folder, I clicked on it and a frame was thrown
    around it.
    Thanks again Pete!!

    Hi Pete!
    It's that pest again.
After I sent you that last post, I noticed you had
    a post script there.
I went to the Microsoft site and found some errors.
in the File menu, the commands:
    "open & print" are missing.
    The view menu is empty.
I see this will be quite a job. So I better get started
sorry I missed this in your post!
    tks R
