    Win 98,
I have a folder with various parts and part numbers saved on various documents in it,when I paste in some new numbers to a document in that folder, and I attempt to close that file, and it asks If I want to save changes, I check yes and it says access to D:\ Scout, etc. denied.
This folder has been moved from the C drive to it`s present location on D If that has any bearing on the problem.
I`ve been working around the problem by copying the document to wordpad, and adding the new data, deleting the old existing document and saving the new one to the folder.
    Kind of a pain!
    What`s my problem?

    Hi Moore,

There is a link regarding this problem:
    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;812937

In windows explorer highlight the document and go to file > properties. and in the properties window, make sure that the attributes at the bottom "read only" and "hidden" are not checked.

Also, make sure that another program is not using the file.

You might save the file under a new name, like adding a number to the name and then rename after you delete the original. Use "save as" instead of save.

    Thanks Sparrow,
That link is for Win XP I`m running `98

"I`ve been working around the problem by copying the document to wordpad, and adding the new data, deleting the old existing document and saving the new one to the folder. "

Under attributes, read only is checked, hidden is not. as far as I went every file in that folder is that way.
    Thanks for the assist.

If Read Only is checked, you cannot Save to it, uncheck Read Only then Apply, then OK.
You might want to check the folder properties, also.

    Yeah, Mark,
I unchecked the read only and then could save the changes.
I`m probably wrong, but I don`t remember of having to do that before this last few times, that I`ve made changes in some documents. In other words I thought something had changed?
Lots of people have trouble admitting they`ve made a mistake.
Not me! I`ve had enough practice I`m getting good at it.
    Thanks

Are these files that were copied from a cdr? If so, when you burn files to a cdr they are always given the read only attribute. When you copy the files back to your hard drive the attribute stays with the file. This could be how they got this way. If you have several of these files in one folder you can remove the attribute on all of them by highlighting all of the files, right click on one of them, properties and uncheck it. Doing this should remove it from all files that you have highlighted.

    Miraculous!!

I am envious of people that have such a store of knowlege, and can remember it. That just worked like a top, and yes the files were copied from a CDR.
Thanks a bunch. I`ll print that off and put it in my "help" notebook.
