    Greetings
When I click on my icon for windows SBSI interactive training, it won't load...says ERROR (big red X) error reading the registry and under that in the little box says software\microsoft\Microsoft Interactive Training. I right clicked to find the properties and then find the target and it is C:\Windows\help\SBSI. When I open it up to that location it shows all files and folders are there but when I click on ORUN32.exe it says can not load "startmenu.cbo "
I checked and that file is there but...it is an icon that is not like the other icons in that it is a white square piece of paper with six little dots on it ( kind of like a place holder if you know what I mean)...anyway...it tells me to reload the software...I called Dell and they tell me to repair or reformat and reinstall windows xp, but I don't want to do a repair with the disk Dell shipped with my computer because I originally had XP Home, and now I have upgraded to XP Pro...so a repair with XP Home won't work.
Does anyone know how I can get the registry repaired or how I can reinstall the SBSI software that I need?
    Thanks in advance for help.
PS I have already run sfc /scannow and all files were ok!

    Hi yarddog1953,

If SBSI interactive training came with XP Home Edition, you need to reinstall it in XP Pro. If you don't have it on a separate CD, or a folder on the recovery CD, I'm afraid you'll have to try to get it from Dell; hope you're warranty covers this situation.

Either that or, if the program is that important to you, go ahead and follow Dell's advice until you've finished the tutorial and then put Pro back on. If you decide to go this way, I think you should format the disk and then reinstall Home edition. If you need directions for this, let us know.

Thanks Sparrow for your quick reply! Something you said I don't understand..... "If SBSI interactive training came with XP Home Edition, you need to reinstall it in XP Pro."
I upgraded to Pro from Home... When I purchased the computer it came with Home...about a year later I purchased Pro from Amazon at a good price w/rebate...now I don't want to go back to Home just to get that "SBSI" program...just wanted to repair it so it worked again....but...I can live without it if need be.

SO...I'll look for a folder on the XP HOME disk, Hope it's there, and hope I can get to it! I'll let you know. Thanks again!

Have you looked on the driver, utility application CD? I put my own XP Pro on and didn't use their software so I never looked on the CD

    Hi Maggie,
Yeah, I looked on that cd and also on another one Dell sent...the "Dell Tools CD for reinstalling Dell installed software ", but its not there...the guy from Dell told me that it was installed with the XP CD, as it is a Microsoft Interactive Training program...I dunno...can't seem to find it...who knows!?! Gotta be somewhere! Frustrating

I can't find it anywhere. Microsoft does sell a step by step guide for pro or home but it is a seperate program. The help and support files have some step by step guides for XP but nothing like what was on the original install on the dell. I would check the dell forums and see if someone might have it for download or begging make get it. I got one of those guides with my Office XP but it was for office.
I think help and support works just fine for my needs. There are extra things on the Dell CD under OEM, one says support. A long time ago I bought two Office 2000 step by step word and EXCEL but they had huge books included.

Here is a link to microsoft press http://www.microsoft.com/mspress/uk/books/book19580.htm I don't know why I ended up with a UK in the link but there are all the countries too

    Maggie,
Okay...yeah, I'll just call Dell back and beg if I have too, I'll look in the fourms like you suggested and then make that call....I still have over 900 days on my warranty, but it won't cover XP Pro since I upgraded it myself and didn't buy the cd from them...I just wanted it to work since all of the files and data are there, its just a kink in the registry that is broken and I'm not skillful enough to fix it (the reason I know it is all intact except the registry is because my roommate has a new Dell with XP Home on it and I compared his files to mine and everything is identical except the "startmenu.cbo" icon) Oh well.....

When I clicked on that link I thought that it was the answer I was looking for...but NO...it wouldn't work with any of the XP Home or Pro cd's or any of the cd's Dell sent with my computer when I purchased it...seems that I read somewhere that it is a factory install when it comes from Dell...I guess I need a Gateway xp cd for my Dell to work..ha ha ha...can you believe it? Is there anyway I can copy it from my roommate "s computer onto a disk and then put it on mine? If so how, and where would I go to look for it in the registry?

    Maggie,

Thanks so much for all of your help! You have provided the ultimate answer...I can't get it back as it is a one time only deal...after reinstall or a format and install it is gone forever!
Dell really needs to rectify this as it is affecting many people I'm sure...I can live without it...I'll just delete it off my C drive and free up some space...ha ha Thanks again...you're the best!

If the search in the dell forums was any indication they should have it. Lots of people are looking for it. I guess it is 100mb file and wouldn't have killed them to put it on the install CD. One guy offered to post it if someone would give him the web space but no one offered . LOL .

http://support.dell.com/us/en/kb/document.asp?DN=1065237#A points you to Microsoft guides
