OK - we got a problem.

To date we just can't solve it.

Our OS is Windows XP Pro.

We need to do a new install of Windows.

    However:

Whoever set up my 40 gig hard drive made a small 120meg
    drive "C ".
Then used the rest of the drive as drive "D ".

And Windows and all programs are now on drive D.

    **********************************************

We put the Windows CD in the CD drive.

Setup suggests "update" so data will be retained.
    We select that.
    Setup asks for serial #.
We input it. It is OK.

However we get a message that drive "C" is too small.

    That's it ! The end !!!

How do we reinstall to drive D where program is now?

Setup just will not go beyond that "C" .

Are you booting from the CD or putting it in while windows is running?

OOps - I guess that is it.
We were running setup from the Start-Run menu in windows.
Will try to go straight from bootup from CD.

    **********************************

However, we did that and got only a choice to do a totally new installation. So, we took that choice. That was bad.

Now we got a new Windows XP but none of the old data.

    ******************************************

But, we got a safety backup.

We have a duplicate of that Hard Drive.

It is OK. We are back to where we started.

But before we mess it up again - how do we get a choice to "UPDATE" when booting from the CD ?

As you can tell - we aren't to computer smart !
