My computer was infected with a version of the Backdoor virus/worm/trojan horse??? I purchased a copy of Noton Internet Securiy 2004 and used the anti virus in attempt to fix the problems. The anti-virus program has sent me a message that the virus has been deleted but there remain a number of problems. When I attempt to access the System or Internet Options windows from the Control Panel, the windows display for about a second then disappear. This makes it impossilbe (so far as I know) to disable System Restore. Also I am unable to use the Shut Down button from the Start Menu. I get the Shut Down window but when I click to activate Shut Down the screen slightly dims for a second then comes back and nothing else happens. The only way to shut down that I have found, short of turning off the power, is to enter a Ctrl-Alt-Del and then use the Shut Down button displayed there. That works most of the time, but occasionally all that happens is a system lock-up. Another problem is that I use the Dellnet version of MSN9 for internet access. The sign-in window appears automatically whenever I boot the computer and then pops up every 3 to 10 minutes. Usually along with it is a blank window labled Internet Explorer with the following in the command line: http://supper-puper-toolbar.vse-moe.biz/glorius.htm

I am assuming that a number of files have altered/corrupted in such a way that they are not being picked up by the anti-virus software.

I could sure use some help!

    Hi Alan English
Welcome to the boards! Are you posting from the same computer that is/was infected? Have you any idea what the name of the virus might have been?
Are you able to do an online scan at housecall ?

Welcome to the boards! I moved this to the Security forum.
First, get CWShredder, Spybot Search & Destroy, and HijackThis. The links are below.
Run CWShredder first. Install Spybot, update it first, this is important. Then do the scan, have it remove everything checked off.
Unzip HijackThis so that it is in it's own folder.Open HijackThis and do it's scan, and then post the log on here.
The log will be looked at, and you will be advised what to do with it. Do not do anything on your own with HijackThis as it can be fatal.
