I finaly got rid of Messenger when I had to re-instakll XP on myt PC but now I'm getting irritated by .NET Passport sign up pop-ups and I have searched high and low and can find nothing more to delete or shut off to get rid of it.

    Any ideas or experience anyone?

Download and run Disable NET passport balloon Pop-up from Kellys Korner. It's on line 212.

Once downloaded, right click on it and select "merge." That will make the registry change to get rid of the prompt.

Or, if you'd rather do the registry edit manually:

    Start/Run/Regedit
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MessengerService. In the right pane, find "PassportBalloon" and change to value to 0A. When done it should read 0A 00 00 00.

Well, I spoke too soon, it's still here nagging me.

here are three entries in the REGISTRY

    NAME TYPE DATA
    (ab) default REG_SZ Windows Messenger
? Passport Balloon REG_BINARY Oa OO OO OO
(ab) Primary Service REG_SZ .NET Messenger Service

I'm a little leery (a lot) about going into Registry and doing an edit.

    Any other suggestions.

MSN Messenger also uses net passport. Do you use it? If set to automatically run MSN Messenger at logon but not set to automatically sign in when connected, that could possibly prompt you to sign into net passport. How did you get rid of Windows Messenger? Command line uninstall?
