    Hi yukon

I Moved your post, its best to start your own thread even if its basicly the same problem.

    1) download this tool, But dont use it until further down
    CWShredder http://radiosplace.com/ CoolWebSearch
If you already have it, just download another copy and overwrite the old one..
To ensure its the latest version.
The current CWShredder version is 1.56.1 [3:46 PM 4/8/2004]

Set windows to show all hidden files and folders
How to Show hidden files and folders.
It might help to print this out.
Start the PC in safe mode

Now copy the contents of the 'Quote' box to Notepad, and save as Remove.reg (save as type: 'all files' )
Doubleclick Remove.reg, and answer yes when asked to have its contents added to the Registry.

Now, still in Safe Mode, run Hijack This, and have it fix the following item's:

    R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = http://sharempeg.com/search/
    R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,Search = http://nkvd.us/1525/
    O2 - BHO: OsbornTech Popup Blocker - {FF1BF4C7-4E08-4A28-A43F-9D60A9F7A880} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\mshelper.dll

    Next

Find and delete the mtwirl32.dll, mtwirl.dll file in your Windows\System32 folder (it may not Be there! )(please be carefull Note the exact spelling please)
Other files that may be there
    cidft.dll, cidpoq32.dll, gupd.dll, icnfe.dll, icqrt.dll, icvbr.dll, nthst32.dll, sdfup.dll, wecxg32.dll, xcwer32.dll, zxmsn.dll, mtwcnl32.dll
Just incase there not in the system 32 folder do a file search for them and if found anywhere delete them.

Run CWSredder Click Fix, don't just scan.

Empty your Temporary Internet Files and history and cookies in Internet Options. And clean out your
    %Userprofile%\Local Settings\Temp folder.

When done, restart your computer normally, Come back and post a fresh log.

Im curious what this is ?
    C:\PROGRA~1\Dantz\RETROS~1\retrorun.exe

    Lonny Jones:

Thanks for this. I have already gone ahead and run the CW Shredder - but not in Safe Mode.

Note: I am unable now to get into my bank website (I was being redirected to the search engine that was mentioned in the ealier threads.) It comes up with "http:///" and the web site not found text. It seems that this trojan redirect is getting more aggressive as I try different tactics to get rid of it.

Should I still peform the same steps?

Regards the executable - not sure what this is.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes please do, SCWredder isn't yet up to date on this one so
    fallow the directions precisely.

and fix this if its not something you know to be good
    C:\PROGRA~1\Dantz\RETROS~1\retrorun.exe

and dont forget a fallow-up log please

Thanks very much. It'll be later this evening before I get to this. I'll post the log once I'm done.

The retrorun.exe mentioned is part of the Maxtor software - for backing up a computer hard drive. So, I'll keep it.

Thanks for your assistance. I'll be in touch later.

    Cheers.., Yukon.

BOTTOM LINE: I seem to have gotten rid of this beast. At least I can access web sites that weren't accessible before. Do you see anything here that needs to be addressed further.

    A HUGE Thanks.

I would delete any previous System Restore points, too.

It looks clean to me, but one thing you do not need. It isn't doing anything at all.
    O4 - Global Startup: hpoddt01.exe.lnk = ?
There is no file listed that is supposed to start "hpoddt01.exe ".
Seems to be left over from HP Digital Imaging. Maybe "C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpotdd01.exe" instead of "?" ?

Thanks for the advice. I'll take a look at what I have and replace or delete what I don't need.

    Cheers..., Yukon
