AOL toolbar removal

Hi All,

First of all, I hope this is being posted in the right place.

My daughter is having a problem removing an AOL toolbar. I am absolutely no help to her because all I know about "AOL" is that I don't like anything about it. I can, however, spell it.

If there are any AOL gurus out there - please feel free to offer your suggestions. I will be sending her the link to this thread to save a lot of wear-and-tear on my keyboarding finger.

I havent used AOL(sorry) Not a guru either

If memory serves aol, compuserve, walmart use branded
versions of netscap that use Internet explorer's engine.
So theres not much we can do about that browser, But if I understand correctly its a toolbar in IE that she wants to get rid of ?

With all browsers closed uninstall it through addremove program's
If that doesnt work post a hijackthis log.

choose save, NOT OPEN
Save it to a PERMANANT folder,(for example C:\Anti Spyware) double-click HijackThis.exe,
and hit "Scan ". When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button. Press that, save the log, load it in Notepad, and copy its contents here.
Most of what it lists will be harmless, even essential,DON'T fix anything yet please.

A: To permanently uninstall the AOL Toolbar:

Click on the AOL® logo to display the drop-down menu.

Select Help > Uninstall.

Click the "Yes" button to uninstall.

 

AOL also tends to brand IE; replaces the windows flag or spinning globe in the top right corner and 'provided by AOL' titled windows, and can be reset with instructions here.
