I don't think you can do that. If you use the restore cd, it'll wipe the drive clean and restore it to the original config. At least that's been my experience with the ones I've worked on. What OS are you using. If win9x you could copy the cab files to a cd and use a boot disk and the cd you made to format the c drive and reinstall windows.

The cabfiles are the files that are used to reinstall windows. They're probably copied to a folder on your hard drive. If they are there, they're usually copied to c:\windows\options\cabs. If they aren't there use try using the find tool and search for *.cabs to see if you can find them. You would want to copy the entire folder contents to the cd. Also, you'd want to make sure there's a setup file in the folder as some OEM setups don't copy it there. You can't install it without the setup file so you'd need to find it if it's not there. If the files aren't copied to your hard drive you can look on the restore cd for them. When you partition the hard drive, windows sees each partition as a seperate drive so as long as you only format the c: drive any files that are located on another drive won't be lost.

if my HD has a bug on it with a certain program and i back it up, when i use the backup CD will it put this bug back on my PC? what it is is that one of my programs is missing a very important file and i tried reinstalling the program to no avail. it keeps saying that file is missing (its a driver actually) and no place online has it. so i must use the quick restore cd.
