Having set my old computer back up from scratch I inadvertently put a password in for start up. I find this a nuisance and would like to remove it please. A simple way for me please. I have totally forgotten how to do this since working on my new PC with XP.
    Thanks
    Karles

Sorry Karles, didn't mean to confuse you. You can either go back into the BIOS and disable the user password by first typing in the current password then just hitting enter for the new password, or you can open the case and pull out the battery from the motherboard for 10 seconds or so.

I think KARLES is talking about the Windows Logon password not the BIOS password. If so try this:

"First, click Start > Find > Files or Folders and type *.pwl, make sure drive C: is selected and click Find Now.... Delete all that it finds.

Next, right click on Network Neighborhood and select Properties

Where it says Primary Network Logon: make sure it says Windows Logon

Click OK and reboot, you may have to hit Enter or click OK on the login window after the first reboot but as long as the password is left blank and you don't hit escape or cancel then the next time you reboot the login window should be bypassed. "

Above taken from a post by KevinSaul.
