links in emails stop working after a while

I am not sure how far back this problem goes, but minimally many months, and this far down the road of course I am unable to relate the problem to an event, so I am hoping that someone here has some experience with this... I have decided that this is such an irritating and costly problem, that I am going to try to start observing events that lead up to the link failure, and just today, noticed something that would appear significant (and I intend to vary the problem determination process each time I fire up email, until I can provide more substantive info...)...

Now, each time I initially start using Outlook (2000), the URL links in the emails (always?) work OK, but at some point they simply stop working. Just today, I noted that links seemed to be OK (only a couple used before) until I tried to invoke the second link on an email from Careerbuilder. Yes, when the failure occured, I did go back to the first link that had just worked, and it would not link either, nor would anything else including the non-Careerbuilder email links. So, the interim conclusion at this point in time is that Careerbuilder did something to mess up my capability to invoke links, at least this time anyway, but I will retest that theory next time I get back into email after a reboot...

However, if anyone has an answer now, or has questions to acquire more info, just let me know...

 

Have you tried copying the link address and pasting it into the browser directly? That will tell if the link itself is still working or if it's a software problem.

 

sure, the actual URLs are OK, it's just that something happens, likely due to settings or something, that causes the links to fail after an indeterminate action

on further observation, I have also noted that the links that are embedded in a daily email from usa today NEVER work...and that some links in some other emails do continue to work when the problem surfaces after the successful invocation of the first link in a careerbuilder email...

so, it's kind of a bizzare and variable problem, but I think that I have been clued into a solution on another site, I just have not checked it out yet...

 

solution for my situation was method 2 in following link, the '%1' parm had been replaced with '-nohome'
