Hope this is the right forum. I'm running Windows98 SE with one hard drive and one CD. The CD works fine when moving files in Windows Explorer, or when installing programs (including reinstalls of 98), or in Auto Insert, but when I try to add or change Windows 98 features through the Windows Setup tab of the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, the CD NEVER responds (or even lights up). This is the only time the CD is dead. Every other possible CD function works fine.

I've got some experience with computers, but I have never run into this before. Anybody have a suggestion? Thanks.

    Welcome!
Copy the files from the CD in the Win98 folder into a folder on the hard drive, maybe C:\Win98?
When you Add\Remove anything and are prompted where the files are, go to that folder.
If you want to eliminate the prompt, and feel comfortable editing the registry, go to Start\Run, type in Regedit and press Enter. Navigate to this Key.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
Look in the right pane for SourcePath, and change the data to "C:\Win98" or whatever folder you used.

    markp62,

Thanks, I did just that last night and it works fine. Still, I'd like to know why the CD didn't respond under those circumstances, Seems odd. Thanks again
