    Hi,
I have a friend who has Windows Xp Pro. Every time she turns on the computer it stops at the Dell logo for approx 2 min's and then finishes booting up. After that all is fine but I can't seem to figure out how to either disable it or shorten it's time...Any help will be greatly appreciated...Thank you...

I wonder if she's running an AV which performs a scan at boot up?

That sounds like Norton Internet Security 2004. I been having the same thing happen to me since I installed it. But I'll put up with it because I like the way it Works.

    Hi,
Her computer is a Dell...As for the Norton Virus, usually the problem can be contributed to the scanning it does at boot up but I personally downloaded AVG into her computer. So we can't give them the heat for it this time. I apologize for not mentioning that...Kinda at a lost where to look next...

Have you tried going into the BIOS and turning off the splash screen so you can see what is happening in the back ground?

We have few DELL's with a GB of RAM and it takes a little extra time as it's checking the RAM on boot. I believe (no sure...going to have a look) that you can disable the check ram feature if this is the case.

Also I believe that AVG does a DOS scan on boot. I have seen it on a Win98se box but not WinXP.

No I have not gone into BIOS to do anything yet...However, I have contemplated going into Safe Mode, then command prompt, type "edit MsDos.Sys and set the "Logo to 0 (zero) "...And see if that helps. Not sure if it will with Windows Xp Pro. I came across that information and only considered it at this point but have not tried it...

XP doesn't have msdos.sys. I think you'll find the option to turn off the splash screen in your bios. Also, if you don't want to disable it all together, try pressing esc on your keyboard when you see the splash screen. This will usually work.

    Hi,
I was not sure if Win/Xp had MsDos and thats why I have not tried it and was putting that off for other suggestions. I will try the "esc key" and also look into the bios suggestion you have given me...Give me a day or so and I will post back...Thank you all for your once again great assistance...
