    Schedule service refuses to run.
    --------------------------------------
    Event log entry:

    Event Type: Error
    Event Source: Service Control Manager
    Event Category: None
    Event ID: 7023
    Date: 4/3/2004
    Time: 5:58:44 PM
    User: N/A
    Computer: UNIVAC
    Description:
The Task Scheduler service terminated with the following error:
Not enough resources are available to complete this operation.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
    -----------------------------------------------------
Error 1721 is what pops up in services.msc while trying to start the service. Same description, though:
"Not enough resources are available to complete this operation. "

    What I have tried:
    1) Repair installation of XP Pro and reinstallation of all updates from Windows Update.
    2) Copying reg entries relating to "Schedule ", "mstask ", and "SchedulingAgent" from another working computer. No difference, so ran Sys Restore to return to original setup.
    3) Changing HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed Components\{CC2A9BA0-3BDD-11D0-821E-444553540000} REG_DWORD, IsInstalled to 0 and reinstalling through mstask.inf both in regular and Safe modes.
    4) Reinstalling IE6 SP1 (on the off chance that the scheduler was updated this way, as I believe it used to be).
    5) Turning off all possible services and running apps.
    6) Looking through all my other apps for anything that may be affecting the Task Scheduler.

None of this has helped. A password is being used. All jobs have been deleted. After running RegMon while trying to start the service, I noticed that a Tag entry was not found. I suspect a missing or corrupt registry entry.

    Any ideas?

This is a tough one. I've searched...and will continue to do so.

    *edit*
Have you tried to create another account and give it a new password?

Well, I hadn't until just now. It doesn't run and gives the same error in a new account, the Admin account, and limited accounts. It was worth a try, for sure.

Apparently some internet cleanup program from Aladdin Systems will cause this error, but I have no software from them that I can find, anyway.

I found one other mention of this problem in another group with no responses. So, thanks to you, I'm already doing better than that :D

    *edit*
I'm just blowing raspberries in the wind now........
But perhaps kelly's Korner has something?
Click on the T at the top...and scroll down to task scheduler.

Then freaking well come back and tell me I've solved this! :D

This isn't very inventive but system restore might not be a bad idea.

SR would have been a great idea, except that I reinstalled and lost all the restore points.

I went through Add/Remove and took out everything I could remember installing in the last week, including Sun Java, Wise for Windows Installer, a screensaver (by mistake), ClickTeam Install Maker Pro, a trial version of Monopoly3 with a 60 minute play limit, and a few smaller ones.

The Task Scheduler started! Now I don't know why. But, as I reinstall, I may find the culprit.

So, thanks for the help and I'll post back if I ever figure it out. And:

    Daizy.....YOU'RE a genius!

    Abraxas.

    "I reinstalled "

    That's your answer.

The CD is not corruptable, so there's something wrong with the HDD.

If you did not format before reinstalling, do it.

If reinstalling after a format doesn't correct, then either do a low level format or install a unix file system (I use linux) on the drive followed by a dos fdisk and format and reinstall.

If that doesn't solve your problem, shoot the beast.

    Note:

I sent this before I saw your last post. Must have crossed in the mail. Glad everything seems to work. But if not, I have had good luck with this on one occasion.
