Are the words Packard Bell blocked from this forum, like the nasty four letter words are? If not they`d probably ought to be!
I`ve got a Packard Bell that the power supply (all 145 watts of it) gave up the ghost on. I`d like to use the 6 GB hard drive as additional storage on another generic computer to supplement the 6GB that it has now.
Can I install the Packard Bell hard drive,as is, as a slave, and give it a format, using a boot disk and the format d: /s command or is it more complicated than that?
I`ve got a disk with CONFIG. and MEM.SYS to copy to root. not sure what to do after I get that far, if I do!

Are there hidden files on that PB hard drive, or will it be squeaky clean when I get done formatting?

Is there anything contagious that this pretty good running computer will catch from the old PB sytem?

Those questions may not be relevant but they are things I think I need to know. Obviously I don`t know much right now.
Any advice as to how to do this will be much appreciated.

    No way :D

Don't see why not - you should be able to format it through Windows as it is not the root drive.
Probably, but a format will, to all intents and purposes, clear them. That is not to say that they would be unrecoverable using specialist software, but I doubt that concerns you :)

    Thanks Pete C.
I think I shall attempt it. At the present time I have the one C drive on the primary IDE as a master. I plan on putting this new hard drive on the same primary as a slave. The secondary has a CDR on D and a CDRW on E will these automatically chage to F and G when I install the second hard drive?
Or should I remove them and reinstall after this spasm is over.
Am I on the right track?

    HA!!!

Piece of cake, for an old guru like me! Got it done and everything looks good. Thanks again.

I`ve got another project for that same computer but maybe it belongs on the` 98 forum. I`ll move to there, I expect that`s where it belongs.

You're welcome - the first step is often the most daunting in any project :)
