Uninstalling Netscape 7.1b1-nothing works!!!

I'm running WindowsXP. When I try to uninstall using Add/Remove it get the following message -- Uninstall Log Folder not found --- HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Netscape\Netscape 7.1b1 (en)\Uninstall\Uninstall.

I've also tried installing over the current app but get the following error messages during install -- "Error - Gecko Runtime environment: 5" and "Error - Runtime environment - Navigator 5. "

I've tried all the fixes on your message board, FAQ and otherwise to no avail.

Can you help?

Hi Chuck,

Did you look in your Registry to see if you have this Registry Key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Netscape\Netscape 7.1b1 (en)\Uninstall\Uninstall.

Also look in:
C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\Uninstall
Do you have a "NSUninst.exe" file?

Sounds like the uninstall Bug in Netscape 7.1. Let us know about the above, and we can go from there.

You may have to uninstall manually if netscape's install log is missing. Without the log, the uninstall cannot know which files to uninstall.

First you should try to manually run the uninstaller.

either one of these should start the uninstaller, assuming you have an install log.

C:\program files\Netscape\Netscape\uninstall\NSUninst.exe
C:\WINNT\NSUninst.exe

Additionally, try to run the GRE uninstaller. One of these should work, assuming you have an install log.

C:\program files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE\1.4f2003062408\uninstall\GREUninstall.exe
C:\WINNT\GREUninstall.exe

If these fail, you may have to uninstall netscape by manually deleting files and registry entries.

Found no NSUinst.exe found in Program Files\Netscape\Netscape\uninstall.

Found C:\WINNT\NSUninst.exe and got the following message:

Ready to uninstall Netscape manually at your instruction.

I forgot to mention, the files with the .lnk extension are shortcuts. Also, backups are recommended before doing anything. You probably need to log on as administrator to delete all the files/folders/registry keys.

Cleaning the registry solved one problem -- there's no longer a Netscape listed in Add/Remove to uninstall. But, I still can't insall NN7.1. I get the same messages as before -- Gecko Environment Runtime error: 5 and Navigator error: 5.

While deleting the registry files I experienced the following:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\Netscape(7.1) -- not there

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Mozilla\Netscape7.1 -- cannot open Mozilla: error while opening key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\mozilla.org\GRE\1.4f2003062408 -- cannot open mozilla.org: error while opening key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Netscape -- cannot delete Netscape: error while deleting key

All other files/folder/registry items you listed were deleted.

I attempted to install NN7.1 and received the same error messages as before.
