I have been using Outlook Express and want to switch to Outlook. No major problem but I cannot seem to get AutoComplete to work on the TO: line.

Used the help and options to see that autocomplete is selected as the proper option but it doesn't work. The addresses imported fine from OE but will not autocomplete.

    Give this a shot:

    Reset AutoComplete Cache

Quit Outlook and any applications that may be accessing Outlook.

Start Windows Explorer or My Computer.

Click "Tools ", "Options" and then the "View" tab.

Under "Advanced Setting ", verify/change the option to enable "Show Hidden Files and Folders ".

Click OK or Apply to exit.

Click, "Start ", "Search" and choose "For Files or Folders ".

In the box, type "*.nk2" (notice that it is * <dot> nk2)

In the "Look in" box, ensure that your local drive (C: usually is chosen.

Click search now. The search should find at least one file.

If numerous files were found, choose the one from named after own profile (which is named after your username).

Right click on the correct file and choose "Rename ".

Change the suffix to .bak so if your username was "jbloggs" the file could be called jbloggs.nk2 and you would rename it to jbloggs.bak.

Close Windows Explorer and restart Outlook.

If the above doesn't work, be advised that Outlook, unlike Outlook Express, won't complete the address until you move the focus to another field; i.e.; type in the first part of the name in the To line, hit the tab key to move to the Subject line and the address will then autocomplete.

Daizy - I found NO .nk2 files at all. Should there always be one?

Miz - I could not usually get an autocomplete that way. Surprisingly, it did autocomplete on one name so I tried several more. NG. Checked the address book also to be sure they were in there.

What version of Outlook are you using?
This may be worth a shot?

    Tenbob:

In both Outlook and Outlook Express there is a shortcut key that will complete addresses in the "To:" line. To use:

Type in part of the e-mail address you want to use the press "Alt+K" and it will fill in the complete address. If it can't find the exact addy or finds two or more similar addy's it will give you a dialog box to make some choices.
