We have a server in our plant that is running Win2k server. When we put this server in the domain, it will not shut down properly. After the message window about shutting down goes off, the screen is blue and a light on the harddrive is on solid. We have waited up to 20 minutes for it to shut down before we shut it down with the power button.

No other server has this problem. The only difference between this computer and our other servers is that this one needs message queuing installed to run our plant operating system. We just tried to reinstall windows, and the server was shutting down normally after we completed the installation of the critical updates, all done as part of a workgroup. As soon as we made it part of the domain, we had the shut down problem again. Our admin wants to keep it in the domain, and we don't think it will impair operation other than being a nuisance.

Has anyone seen this problem before or has any idea how to resolve it?

    Thanks!

Did you check your event logs to see if you can get a hint what is hanging things?

Is the domain classic NT4 or does it use AD?

    The domain uses AD.

We checked the event log today. In the Application log, the last thing seen is an information message for MSSQL$WINCC: 17125 Using Dynamic lock allocation [2500] Lock Blocks [5000] Lock owner blocks, and there is an error: Windows cannot query for the list of group policy objects.

In the system log, there is a warning: This host can not be acs since the active directory has not been properly configured... (this will be taken care of tomorrow) and after that is an information message about the W32Time: Time service corrected the clock error by 3725 seconds.

I'm not sure if any of these are causing the problem, but the W32Time is the last thing logged.
