Hi, I'm planning to do a disk wipe, repartition, format and install of win98se on a friend's Thinkpad 600 laptop. She got this laptop without any of the original IBM software that I suppose came with it to the original owner. Before I do the wipe, do I need to be concerned about whether the computer will work "normally," that is, as if it were a normal desktop PC, if none of that possibly-existing IBM software is present as installation software? Will mice, modems, comports or other devices work properly? Do I just blithely install win98se after prepping the drive? Thank you.

    thanks

Tinknocker, thank you for the useful link. While I ended up calling IBM (and even though the warranty expired a year ago, the knowledgeable (!!!) customer support tech answered my questions, including steering me to a link similar to the one you gave. However, I've bookmarked yours, I think it will be useful.
