after upgrading to IE6 and having my computer auto=reboot during a critical update install, its now stuck in an auto-reboot cycle. it restarts during the "starting windows" splashscreen.
i can't get into safe mode, last known good configuration, etc. if using 'safe mode with command prompt' the last line before the re=boot is 'multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)c:\winnt\system32\drivers\mus.sys'.
i can get to a command prompt due to a dual boot configuration.
i do not have the win2000 cd.
    any suggestions?
    thanks.

Unless you can locate the install CD or unless you happened to put the recovery console on the Hard Drive or unless you have a current ERD (emergency repair disk), I think you may be hosed.

i do have an erd, but is my understanding you need the win2000 install cd to use it...
    one question tho....
what commands would be useful with the recovery console ???

Recovery console - fixboot would be worth a try for your situation and possibly fixmbr.

And I was wrong about the ERD floppy having a copy of the registry. That was the case with NT4 but not with 2K. HOWEVER, there should be a saved copy on the hard drive from your creation of the ERD.

    Take a look Here.
