    Hi all,

I'm guessing (hoping) the answer to this is straightforward, but I can't for the life of me work it out....Basically I have 2 PC's running Win XP Pro connected to an ADSL/Router (running DHCP).
I have one PC which I use for downloading large files, and I generally need to copy them to my main PC, and this works fine. The problem is, when I turn off the main PC and then turn it back on again, it takes ages before it will see the other PC in the workgroup. The error message displayed is "The list of servers for this workgroup is not currently available ". It does see it eventually, and I'm not sure of exactly how long it takes, but it's at least half an hour. Any ideas?

    Regards,

    Lee

Sounds like a Browser master election is being forced and is taking time to agree - basically becasue two XP Pro machines are ranked as "equal" in the election process

Try setting the Computer Browser service on ONE of the Pcs to manual

If this doesnt work then post back

I fit does work then post back anyway :D

Some other odds and ends about slow browsing and how to tweak/fix/patch various causes. BTW, I have done all of these with no problems.

http://www.ss64.com/nt/slow_browsing.html (and glad I ran across this one. I never use network neighborhood so hadn't looked at it since this laptop was built. I did just now to check out their info and found a couple dozen entries I didn't need. A quick reg patch and deleted the junk)

    http://www.activewin.com/winxp/tips/basic/5.shtml

    And from Here
Note that there is a second key under the NameSpace that might also help some if removed - stops your PC from checking for shared printers. But I don't like it much because if there is a shared printer on the PC you are browsing, the overall effect is a slight slowdown. On a large network where you know you aren't using printers attached to systems you browse, it can speed things up.
