Need to install ICS. Trying to network some computers, the host is running Win98se, but the Win98se disk has long since gone. Anyone know where I can get the files? Tried pulling the files from cabs, but no luck.

You can force Windows to look for the files it needs in the C:\Windows\Options\Cabs folder instead of asking for the Win98 CD with a fairly simple registry edit:

    1. Start menu>Run, type in regedit, click OK
    2. In the left pane, open HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SETUP.
    3. In the right pane, scroll down till you see SourcePath. Double-click on it.
    4. Change the path (i.e. E:\win98cd\win98) to your own setup directory (i.e. C:\WINDOWS\OPTIONS\CABS\). Note: You must have the backslash at the end of your path.
    5. Close regedit

This presupposes you have the Cabs folder.

Also, just in case you're using AOL, be forwarned that ICS and AOL will not co-exist.

I had tried it a slightly different way, by selected browse, and going to the windows/options/cabs. But both methods, states that numerous files can't be found.

I usually open a search window at the same time and search the drive for the file needed, then type in the proper path to each one . If the ones you need are not on the drive, you don't have a disc and can't borrow one, might ask someone for file transfers via Yahoo or MSN Messenger. I have both and 98SE. ;)

MSN handle same as AIM @hotmail
