Any time we get downloads from our AOL friends mail they come through as a text document. We know they are pictures but when we try to open them all that comes opens is text gibberish.
What are we (or they) doing wrong ?

You will find most of the folks here don't use aol. But try to send yourself a picture, either as an attachment or in the email. If it comes through, then ask your friends how they are trying to send the pic. I do know if it is forwarded pics, aol has lots of problems with the forward method.

That sound like old style MIME encoding for photos. I remember having to use it when on Compuserve many years ago.

Sorry I didn't find a decoder for it, the webpage above has a dead link for one, but it refers to AOL 4, perhaps it is on their end?

Thanks for the replys. Took me a while to check with my AOL buddies to determine if the pics were originated by them or fowarded. It turns out that the ones I get that come to me in "txt" format that I cannot open are fowarded by them. Would it be possible for them to originate a message to me,click on "add attachment" then send it to me as an originating Email then I could open it ?
I might add I don't miss AOL. Now using Verizon DSL on Windows XP with Courier Email. Very happy !

    Hi,
I have AOL 6 and if I get a picture in my e-mail I can right-click on the picture and click on "save picture" and then open a new e-mail and click "paste ". (Although I was also able to forward a picture okay.)
If your friend is using AOL 5 they can right-click on the picture and save it to, say, their AOL temp file. When they want to send it they open a new e-mail and click on the little binoculars on top of the e-mail and locate the picture.
    I hope this helps.
    Sincerely, Angel1

Thanks for your replys. I will pass on this info to my AOL friends. It's too bad if AOL is causing these problems for their users.
