I have a drive that I want to share. The share name by default is "SHARE (D) ". My problem is that Unix has problems with the space and '()' in the share name. For some reason that share name is not editable in the sharing setup window. How can I change it? TIA.

I apologize for bouncing this back to the top but there was no reply and I really need to get this fixed. Surely there is a way to set share names under XP. TIA.

Certainly no apology for bringing this one back up. Sorry you didn't get a response first time around.

Just to make sure we are both talking about the same thing, the link is to a shot of my PC with details on the one folder I have as a visible share (your root drives are admin shared as C$ or D$ or whatever so hidden). There are also the network shares I have mapped right now with the Drive letter shown at the right.

If the actual share name contains the space and () brackets you should be able to change it with a right-click on the share, sharing & security (at least on XP-pro), and then set it to whatever you like.

If you have XP-home where 'simple file sharing' is almost the only way you are allowed to operate, the specific how-to may be different.

Thanks for the reply. I do have XP-Pro. However, for whatever reason, the share field is grayed out. Right or left click doesn't matter. It won't let me change that field. Turning sharing off and back on doesn't help either.

A shot in the dark - I also run Pro - Windows Explorer > Tools > Folder Options - try unchecking 'simple file sharing' or vice versa.
