My machine had Win 98SE on it when I purchased it and had a CD ROM for Word 2000 to install. I since upgraded to to Win XP Home and added another 128 mb of DIMM.

I re-installed Word 2000 after the upgrade in June 2003.

Now when I write a letter on it the program seems to like to switch fonts and font size in the middle of everything. I can set it back and it will hold for a while and then start being cute again.

It will switch BOLD from normal and back again, etc. I'm sure you get the picture.

Any suggestions as to how to conquer this beast?

Put in the Word CD, you should get an option to repair. If that doesnt work, with Word closed, do a search for normal.dot. Delete it, reboot. Then see if that helps.

    Word 2000 in XP

Thanks aleekat, I did the repair function and it seems to have corrected the problem.
