My connection to the Internet is ASDL and works fine until it's lost without any apparent reason. It simply stops. But will come back as if nothing had happened after the machine being restarted. Do you see any fair reasona for those breaks?

The modem is a very reliable Terayon. It stays on line 24/7 and I have no complains. I'm almost sure that I have a software problem.

    Hi oldsailor,
IMHO You are correct. I've seen this in several computers running several versions of windows, including 98, 98se, and xp. Nothing but rebooting helps. I'm sure it's a bug in windows.

A bug in Windows looks helpless...
But it has been working nicely since it was installed, months ago.
By the way, I have not added any new program recently.

Any hints in your event logs?

Any help if you do the following in this order?
    start~run~ipconfig /flushdns
    start~run~ipconfig /renew

Is there a firmware update available for the modem?

    Thanks for the ideas.
When I run ipconfigure it either works properly or generates a message stating that the program could not open. I replaced ipconfig with a new copy without any result.
The modem firmaware is still in its original version.
Moments ago, just after another boot, I turned off the native WinXP firewall. Let's see what's going to happen...

Thanks for those who spent some time with my problem.
After uninstalling Panda Antivirus & Firewall the system is running normally.

Glad you got it figured out. Shame you had to blow away some software though. Still ....
