Just posted about how my business is switching servers - long and short being that everything has gone hunky-dory for the Outlook users, while the Netscape users (and two on Calypso - I don't even know what it is!) are losing out bigtime.

In Outlook, after inputting the new server information (including deleting the old server account and initiating a new one) all the emails which have been downloaded from our previous server and folders created to organize them remained intact. To my non-computer-scientist brain, this seemed appropriate. I made no modification to the email files on my computer, just modified the instructions on where to ask for and download email from in the future.

In changing over 7.1, checking in help confirmed that the same process was necessary. Delete old account, install new account. No special provisions were made for domain transfer, but as the same process had gone smoothly in Outlook, I assumed that the same would happen in this relatively recent version of Netscape (especially considering that we don't have IMAP - if we download emails from the server, how could something as cavalier as switching domain servers warrant erasing EVERY SINGLE EMAIL stored under the original server's account?). I should have backed up (not that I know how, but I should have anyway). Deleting the employee's account for our original server made all of her exant email and storage architecture simply disappear.

Is there any way to retrieve this? I've seen a post about retrieving deleted Netscape mail folders, but, again, nothing is mentioned about account deletion and accompanying disappearance of folders and emails.

Many thanks for any advice you may have.

    Christine

    Welcome to the Forum, Planetarium!

    Hi Christine,
If you deleted the accounts from the original server, and have no backup, then I would conclude that the Mail is lost.

However, if you are saying that you deleted the account in the Mail & Newsgroups Accounts Settings, then created a new account, then the Mail should still be available in the user's Profile directory. Depending on your OS:
    .......\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\username\*.slt\Mail\mailaccount

If the Profile is still available, then it might be as simple as changing the "Local directory" path in the Mail & Newsgroups Accounts Settings | Server Settings, from the original server path to the new server path.
