It would help to know what application you're referring to, as I can't find a History setting on the View menus of either Windows Explorer or Internet Explorer.

I can put a History button on the toolbar, but its View menu's listings are "By Date ", By Site ", By Most Visited ", and "By Order Visited Today ".

    Joe ...

I don't use IE, either but, since most users do, I assumed incorrectly that it was the subject of your inquiry. I haven't used NS 7.x for about a year, so don't recall its various settings. I've switched to Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird as my default browser and email client.

Ramona, over in the Netscape & Mozilla forum would be the one to ask. Perhaps one of the staff will see this thread and move it over there.

Since this is a Netscape question, moving it to the appropriate forum.

    Arie ...

Thanks, I was hoping you would.

Now, what about the new poll I suggested to you in two separate emails? I haven't received a response to either.

    Hi Joe,

Using Netscape 7.1, I used the settings you referenced, and find that they are retained from session to session. Which Version of Netscape 7 are you using?

    Joe,

Have you deleted the history.dat file, to see if this might clear up your problem? It is located in the *.slt folder, of your Profiles folder. Do this with Netscape and Quick Launch closed.
    See: Profiles Folder Location

If you are using a Theme other than the Default Modern or Classic, then revert back to Modern.

Let us know if you continue to have problems.

Ramona: There is 387KB in the DAT file. Are you saying I should delete the contents of it?? or the whole folder?

    History

In the prefs js file there are values for
history grouping but no value for last page visited

    user_pref( "browser.history.last_page_visited ",

If ? it should have a value, what should it be? "True" ? What is it in yours? I'm using NS 7.0
    Joe R.
PS: Where can I find info on "Values "
that are used here and in the Registry?

    Joe,
Delete only the history.dat file, located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\xxxxxxxx.slt
This should be done on a routine basis, along with deleting the XUL.mfl file, and the entire Cache folder. Being a heavy user, I do this on a daily basis.
There will be no true/false value. It should literally be the link of the "last page visited ". My script:
    user_pref( "browser.history.last_page_visited ", "http://channels.netscape.com/ns/browsers/7/su_setup702.jsp ");
This is the most comprehensive list to date:
    Documented Preferences

To the best of my knowledge there is no documentation of all Registry keys. What you can do is monitor your install with an application like InCtrl5. It takes a before and after snashot of your system, and lists all changes created by the install.
