I just went to update my NAV definitions for the second time today using LiveUpdate. This morning LU downloaded approx. 300-400 KB of defs. Just now (15:45 PST) I ran it again and it wants to d/l approx. 4.6MB of defs.

It looks like it may be trying to download the "Intelligent Updater" file.

Has anyone else experienced this situation today?

I am a little leary of proceeding with this huge LU update as last time NAV messed up on an update I had to uninstall and reinstall, and you all know what that entails with NAV.

    JohnB,
With all do respect, do yourself a favour and uninstall Norton and go to http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php and find and install AVG60 free edition. It is (as stated) free as are all updates you can relax and be assured that AVG will do the job. If you have questions don't hesitate to respond.:)

Good luck and please post your results.

    John,

I just ran my LiveUpdate program and there is nothing there to download. It doesn't surprise me since I have cable and always connected. I can tell you that if it did install any updates, there has been no problems on either of my systems.

As far as the Intelligent Updater program, it doesn't look like you need that as long as your LiveUpdate program is working. Strange that it wants to download that. I would try again tomorrow to see what you come up with then.

Thanks Houston and Mike for your comments. I won't get into the Norton vs. others war right now. I will wait until tomorrow or for another couple of days, as I am heading out of town (well actually into town as I live in the country) for a couple of days.

Will post back on what happens or doesn't happen Friday or Sat.:)

    It's OK

Well I decided to bite the bullet and d/l the 4.6MB update. It installed and then I checked to see if the number of defs had changed. Just about freaked when it said I had NO definitions installed.

Did the 3 finger salute and brought up the task manager and LiveUpdate had a "not responding" so I did the End Task on it and one other LU process and lo and behold back came the defs. with the correct number (currently 66203). Whew!!!

I guess for some reason it didn't finish installing until I end tasked.

Don't know what happened but all seems OK now. Didn't want to leave for several days and have my wife catch a virus.

Did a reboot and still OK.:D

A happy ending to a Norton story. :D

    John,

Good to hear that your system is working just fine with the update. I guess I have been lucky with Norton's since I have never had any problems with any downloads. I'll keep my fingers crossed as things can change with any program out there at the drop of a hat.

    Mike
